History of Our Law Firm
The firm that is today Huber, Book, Lanz and McConkey, PLLC traces its roots back to Attorney William Carl Hoffmann who began practicing law in Des Moines, Iowa over 90 years ago. Since its beginning, the firm has continually focused on trial practice and workers’ compensation. We have and continue to represent large national corporations along with local businesses, insurance companies, and individuals. The firm’s lawyers have experience appearing before small claims courts, trial courts, the Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner, the Iowa Court of Appeals, the Iowa Supreme Court, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition to our expertise in handling workers’ compensation claims, the firm’s lawyers have successfully represented clients in litigation involving exposure to asbestos (mesothelioma), personal injury, property damage, premises liability, products liability, motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall cases, construction defects, medical malpractice, employment law, and disability. Our reputation within the workers' compensation community is demonstrated by the fact that a former member of our firm, Joseph Cortese, is currently the Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner and another former member of our firm, William Grell, is currently a Deputy Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner.
